Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can occur after a traumatic event. People with this condition are troubled by distressing memories or thoughts about the trauma, avoid memories and other reminders about what happened, and experience intense anxiety, sadness, or anger. These symptoms have a significant impact on relationships, work and daily activities.
A traumatic event is one in which you directly experience, witness or otherwise experience severe threat to life or physical safety or actual death. Common types of trauma include:
- Car accidents
- Work accidents
- Physical or sexual assault
- Military combat
- Natural disasters
- Working as a police, fire, or ambulance officer, where you are often confronted with details of these types of trauma
This course has been developed for people who have PTSD, and teaches people practical skills to help them recover.
Who will find this course useful?
People who have experienced one (or more) of the types of trauma noted above and are experiencing the associated symptoms.
This course is self-paced, but is designed to be completed within 3 months, at most. It is best to do one lesson every week or two to allow time to practice between lessons. The system won’t allow less than 5 or more than 25 days between lessons. Most people take 10-12 weeks to complete the course. Initially you will be granted 90 days access, and upon completion of the course, you will be granted an extra 12 months access for practice purposes.
How much will it cost?
The course is A$59 for three months’ access.
What type of support will I receive?
This course is only available for enrolment under clinician guidance. Before starting the course, we recommend that you discuss with your clinician how you can make contact if you have questions or concerns as you proceed though the lessons.
How is the course structured?
Our online questionnaires help to establish how you are feeling. Results from the questionnaires are then relayed to your clinician after each lesson. You will be emailed by THIS WAY UP if your scores are above the acceptable range. We recommend that your contact your clinician in this event.
Our lessons are in a comic based format, where you can follow the journey of a character as they learn practical skills to combat PTSD. They also learn how to maintain these skills, manage and reduce difficulties, and prevent symptoms from returning.
Download our summaries and activities to reinforce what you learnt in each lesson.
Download additional activities and information that you can complete between lessons.
Schedule your next lesson using our online calendar and we’ll send you reminders for your next lesson.
We are currently conducting a randomised controlled trail on this course.
